Alleged N1trn rail contracts scam: Reps invite Amaechi, NRC MD, others
Memebers of the adhoc committee of the House of Representatives on failed rail contracts have summoned the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi; Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, Seyi Sijuwade; former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr Mohammed Bello Haliru; and former Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, to explain their roles in the alleged N1 trillion rail contracts scam.
The adhoc committee is headed by Ehoizuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, PDP, Ikpoba/Oha Federal Constituency.
President Buhari jets off to France, London on Tuesday
President Muhammadu Buhari will begin an official visit to France and Britain on Tuesday. He will on Wednesday address a special session of the European Union Parliament. Buhari will also hold talks with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker on the same issues before leaving Strasbourg for London to join other world leaders at the Supporting Syria and The Region Conference scheduled to open in the British capital on Thursday, February 4, 2016.
Arms deal: EFCC raids ex-VP Sambo’s office, seizes $50,000
The EFCC on Monday raided the Abuja office of the former Vice President, Arc. Namadi Sambo, taking away $50,000 from his safe. The raid was carried out. A source close to the operation confirmed to Vanguard on Monday that the operatives broke into the Safe kept by the former vice president and removed whatever valuable they found, including top branded wrist watches, assets declaration forms, and list of landed property.
The raid, it was learnt followed the discovery that one of Sambo’s aide, known as Daboh, was found to have collected the sum of N25 million from the embattled National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisah Metuh, as part of the sum he got from the former NSA, Dasuki Sambo
White House wants $1 billion to fund cancer ‘moonshot’
The White House said Monday it wants $1 billion to “jump-start” a new task force to end cancer, known as the Moonshot initiative headed by Vice President Joe Biden.
Already $195 million has been allocated to the National Institutes of Health so that work on new cancer research can begin immediately, a senior administration official told reporters.
President Barack Obama’s proposal for the fiscal year 2017 budget, being released February 9, will seek to add another $755 million for new cancer research at the NIH and US Food and Drug Administration.
