Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, and the Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee met in Kaduna. The committee stormed Kaduna yesterday as part of the peace building efforts in the area, which had been in crises in the last six months. The delegation, which comprised the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, met with el-Rufai behind closed doors.
Tension grips Anambra town over alleged killing of two herdsmen
Two herdsmen have been reportedly killed in Umuoba-Anam, Anambra East LGA in Anambra State. The herdsmen were allegedly killed on January 7, 2017 following a brawl with the natives of the area. As a consequence, fear has gripped the people of the area following the incident, even as the Anambra State Police Command said it had deployed no fewer than 500 policemen in the area to forestall the breakdown of peace, law and order. The police said six persons had been arrested in connection with the matter.
Bloody clash between Hausa/Fulani & indigenes in Akwa Ibom town
Three persons are reported dead and scores injured in a clash between Hausa\Fulani residents and some local residents of Itiam Etoi in Uyo LGA of Akwa Ibom State. On Wednesday a Hausa scrap dealer transporting a power generator on wheelbarrow was accosted in Itiam Etoi by ‘area boys’ who wanted ‘settlement’
A heated argument ensued and he refused to settle which led to a fight. The Hausa man later mobilized his kinsmen and launched a reprisal attack with machetes, clubs and iron rods. People were attacked and they chased shop owners away.
Oil subsidy scam: Nigerian oil billionaire convicted for fraud
A Nigerian billionaire, Walter Wagbatsoma, has been convicted of fraud by a Lagos court.
Mrs. Ada Ugo-Ngali, convicted alongside Mr. Wagbatsoma for fuel subsidy fraud, fainted in the dock Friday as the judge read the sentence for her conviction forcing the proceedings to be rescheduled to Monday. Mrs. Ugo-Ngali, Mr. Wagbatsoma, and their company, Ontario Oil and Gas, were convicted on an eight-count amended charge of fuel subsidy fraud before the Ikeja Division of the Lagos High Court.
MMM Is Back, Gives Conditions For Payment
The Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM), a Ponzi scheme that froze participants’ accounts for a month, returned on January 13 with a promise to pay the poor before the rich. The scheme, which was scheduled to return on Friday said it was setting a limit on daily withdrawals, in order to control panic withdrawals. A statement issued by MMM founder, Sergey Mavrodi, stated that: “The holidays are over, and we are now open. Just as promised . . . Well, I hope, the members of the System will forgive us for that”
Oil subsidy scam: MD of Ontario Oil fainted in Lagos court
Mrs Ada Ugo-Ngali, the Managing Director of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, on Friday Jan 13, 2016, fainted in the dock as she was about to be convicted for an N1.9 billion oil subsidy fraud by a Lagos court. Mrs Ugo-Ngali and her co-defendant Walter Wagbatsoma, the Chairman of the company, were before Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos state high court in Ikeja, for the ruling of the subsidy fraud preferred against them. When Ugo-Ngadi came to, she panted loudly, and her lawyers frantically tried to get any medical personnel and an ambulance.
Suicide bomber strapped baby to her back, blew herself & 7 Others, In Adamawa
Indications emerged last night that one of the three female suicide bombers that attacked Madagali town in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, yesterday died with a baby strapped on her back. According to an online news portal, Per Second News, at least nine people died in the latest attack.
Oil scam scam: Mild drama as oil baron faints in Lagos court
The MD of Ontario Oil and Gas Limited, Mrs. Ada Ugo-Ngali, fainted at the Lagos State High Court after being convicted of N754m oil subsidy scam. Justice Lateefa Okunnu was delivering judgment in a N1.9bn subsidy scam trial in which she and three others were defendants. She slumped as the judge was about to pronounce sentence. EFCC lawyer Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) said the offence carried a seven-year jail term and urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence. But before the judge could pronounce the sentence, Ugo-Ngali passed out.
11 Killed in Multiple Bomb Blasts in Madagali, Adamawa
Multiple explosions rocked Madagali town in Madagali LGA in Adamawa State on Friday morning resulting in the death of about 11 persons, while many were injured. An eyewitness said three bombs were detonated by Boko Haram insurgents at a crowded motor park on the outskirts of the town, and 11 dead bodies had been found. A local official, who confirmed the attack, said nobody could guess the nature of the attack, adding that he could not say if the attack was the handiwork of suicide bombers.
