Buhari cancels trip to Sambisa Forest
President Muhammadu Buhari has canceled his visit to the Sambisa Forest. Buhari was scheduled to declare open the Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship holding in Sambisa forest on Monday, March 27. In his stead, the minister of defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, will represent the President at the event, Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai disclosed this on Saturday, March 25. Neither the presidency, ministry of defence nor the defence headquarters offered any reason for the cancellation.
Hameed Ali, Saraki & Impounded Range Rover
There are reports that the Senate President and the Senate are on a vengeful mission against the Nigerian Customs because of the alleged Customs seizure of a N298 million bullet proof Range Rover SUV belonging to Saraki. Reports say Saraki refused to pay the N74 million Customs duty. An online medium had reported that the Senate was at war with the Comptroller General Hameed Ali over Customs seizure of the SUV. Reacting to the development, the Media aide to the Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu denied it.
Senate summons Malami, Dambazau over passport scandal
The Senate has summoned the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, over alleged passport scandal running into billions on naira. The Senate ad hoc committee is looking into alleged misuse, under remittance, and fraudulent activities in the collection, remittance and expenditure of Internally Generated Revenue chaired by Senator Solomon Adeola. The ministers were invited along with 4 companies: Contec Nigeria Ltd, Greater Washington Nigeria Ltd, Newwork Solution and Investment Ltd and Iris Smart Technologies.
El-Rufai’s memo at Buhari’s request – Source
The controversial memo written to President Muhammadu Buhari by Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State was at the prompting of the President, The Nation reported. The 30-page, September 2016 memo, according to sources was a follow up to a discussion on the state of the nation between Buhari and el-Rufai last year. Buhari had requested el-Rufai to put his thoughts down in writing. The source attributed the leakage of the letter to permutations for 2019 general elections.
