Sheriff & Makarfi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC), led by Ali Modu Sheriff urged the Nigerian Supreme Court to shun an appeal brought before it by the party’s sacked National Caretaker Committee led by Ahmed Makarfi. Sheriff contended that the Makarfi Committee, having been declared illegal by the February 17, 2017 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt, lacked the powers to take decisions for the party, including initiating court proceedings in its name.

No ransom was paid for release of 82 Chibok girls – Lai Mohammed

Lai Mohammed

The Nigerian Information Minister Lai Mohammed has denied suggestions, insinuations or reports that a ransom of two million euros was paid by the federal government to Boko Haram for the release of the 82 Chibok schoolgirls. In response to a BBC report, Mohammed said: “apart from the five Boko Haram commanders, the exchange of which we have already made public, no other concession was made. Any other thing to the contrary is absolutely false. I emphatically deny on behalf of the Federal Government that any sum of ransom was paid in exchange of the 82 Chibok girls.”
