Igbo quit notice: Igbo leaders meet, back ‘One Nigeria’ but restructure the country
In an unprecedented meeting since the recent spate of pro-Biafra separatist agitations (since IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu came out on bail), Igbo leaders from the South-east zone, including its governors, National Assembly members, leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other stakeholders (with President Buhari’s political appointees from the southeast conspicuously absent), rose from a closed-door meeting early yesterday in Enugu, restating the zone’s commitment to a united Nigeria (One Nigeria) and the restructuring of the country.

The communiqué read in part: “ . . . That Ndigbo are in support of a united Nigeria . . . That we condemn all hate speeches . . . That Ndigbo support the report of the National Conference of 2014 . . . That the South-east governors, members of the National Assembly from the South-east and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo should henceforth constitute the official organs that will speak on behalf of Ndigbo on political matters . . . That the South-east leaders, in consultation with leaders from other parts of the country, will engage the federal government on all areas of concern to Ndigbo and to Nigeria as a whole.”
Igbo quit notice: Arewa Youths to reconsider ultimatum
The Coalition of Arewa youths that issued the Igbo quit notice will reconsider their stand. Alhaji Shettima Yerima, president of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), one of the youth groups that issued the October 1 deadline, said inter alia, yesterday: “We are happy that the Igbo leaders have taken a step to curtail some people who have been trying to hold the country down through their actions . . . they have said they remain committed to indivisible Nigeria, we will reconsider our position . . . We will have to discuss with the stakeholders across the North, what the Igbo leaders did is a welcome development . . . We will meet and make our position known to the world.”
APC’s priority is economy & infrastructure, not restructuring – Oyegun
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out the possibility of restructuring Nigeria. The party said that the priority of the present government is to fix the economy, restore hope to Nigerians and create jobs for its teaming youths. APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who made the party’s position known on Arise program on Channels Television, assured that the party will not renege on the promises clearly stated in its manifesto. On restructuring of the country by the Southeast, Oyegun said, inter alia: “ . . . we will talk to . . . everybody that claims to have an answer to the problem, including Nnamdi Kanu”.
First Lady jets to London to visit President Buhari
The wife of Nigeria’s President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari on Sunday left for London, United Kingdom to visit her husband who is on medical vacation. A statement signed by Mrs. Buhari’s Director of Information, Suleiman Haruna, said that she would convey to President Muhammad Buhari the best wishes of Nigerians and their fervent prayers for his quick recovery. The statement further disclosed that Mrs. Buhari is expected to stop over in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to make a symbolic appearance at the meeting of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) today.
‘I didn’t file any suit against police’ – Billionaire kidnapper, Evans
The serial kidnapper and ex-armed robber, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans denied filing any suit against the Nigerian Police. A motion ex parte was filed before the Federal High Court Lagos on Wednesday. Evans was said to have alleged constitutional infractions of his fundamental rights. The suspect told Channels Television on Sunday from police detention, that the lawsuit was an attempt by some people to put him in more trouble. The suspect noted further that even if he was released by the police, he would not go because those he has kidnapped and collected millions of naira as ransom from would kill him.
Nigerian companies have 29 private jets registered in South Africa – FIRS
The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Mr. Babatunde Fowler has said that about 29 private jets owned by Nigerian organisations are registered in South Africa. Fowler spoke at a 3-day Automatic Exchange of Information Foundation course for selected African countries, which ended in Lagos weekend. He said inter alia:: “As the Council Chairperson of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), I found out that Nigerian organizations have 29 private jets registered in South Africa. The issue is that, how much tax do they pay here?” We are not talking about the issue of how they got the money to buy the jets. The issues as to their source will be dealt with latter on. The more we work together through automatic exchange of information, the better for all of us.”
